Suspiria

Last night I was flipping through channels and found an old favorite movie playing.  Instantly, I was sucked in, not because it is a really great film (although some horror lovers would argue), but the design is amazing!

Shot in 1977, the set, costumes, hair and make-up are crazy and odd.  My favorite combination.  It is a simple plot, a young American ballet student arrives at a famous Black Forest dance school-- run by witches.  Online there are constant rumors that it will be remade.  The latest is that Natalie Portman would play the American ballet dancer.  If they do, I hope they hire me!

Here are a few posters:

And here are a few stills from the film.  I love the 70's sweater she wears in the bottom still.

  1. I've never seen or heard of the movie. Maybe you should make a recommended movie list . . .

  2. I, too, love this film. The red walls and heavily hung curtains scream out David Lynch "Twin Peaks" long before he did it.
